We had a blast a few nights ago at the Copper Door in Santa Ana. A big thank you to all of you who came out and made the night a great one. Drew also plays drums with our good friends in Moonsville Collective, part of which I will be heading up to Los Osos with next weekend to work on a new record for Yo Pitzy Jug Band.
This morning we spent a few hours recording some older songs for which we’ve never really sat down and done a proper recording. You might be familiar with the songs “Take Me Home” (from way back in the day, at least 2007 or 2008, not totally sure but we definitely had a different crew in the White House when I wrote it) and “Changed Your Name” (2009ish). They have been staples of our live set for a handful of years, but didn’t fit in sonically or thematically with the rest of Looks Like a Flood, Feels Like a Drought, and they won’t be taking up space on our new release either–whatever/whenever that might be. But these two songs have been an important part of our live show and we didn’t want to just let them fade away into obscurity. We’ll be releasing a mostly live recording (with a few overdubs, we’re not perfect, okay?) of the pair in the next few weeks for your free downloading enjoyment.
I wish I could give a more concrete timeline of when our next release will be finished, but if I’m being honest–I don’t know. It will be relatively soon, maybe 4-6 months away, and that’s as much as I can say. I like the new songs more than anything we’ve done thus far and don’t want to rush things and release something we’re not one hundred percent happy with, or that poorly translates any of the songs. I’m finally finishing college this semester, and things like school have a tendency to put a damper on a lavish rocking and rolling lifestyle. Thankfully, once I have obtained my degree, I can get back to putting time into things that I find more awesome, like music and staying up until two in the morning at bars damaging my hearing with all of you wonderful people. In the meantime, we’re going to keep playing as often as possible and continue chipping away at our next release. We’re planning on playing a few low-key acoustic shows in the next couple months just to get a feel for some of the new songs and to try out some more stripped down arrangements of old ones, so keep checking back and we’ll keep you in the know about where and when something like that will be happening.
